Rudi - Haunted by 9/11

A documentary series about the incredible life of Rudi Dekkers: a man from Amsterdam who made global headlines in 2001 after it was reported that he had trained the 9/11 hijackers Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi at his flight school in Venice, Florida.

He appeared on Larry King, Matt Lauer, he was on the front page of The New York Times, and he always told the same story: that he never knew what the two terrorists were planning. Once the media storm had settled down, his life took a dramatic turn.

Haunted by nightmares, creditors, and aviation authorities, Rudi slowly loses everything: his family, his flight schools, and his fortune. Just when he seems to have his life back on track, Rudi is arrested at Houston Airport in 2012 during an undercover operation by Homeland Security with 18 kilograms of cocaine and 860 grams of heroin.

Twenty years after 9/11 US correspondent Max Westerman and former FBI agent Kerry Myers look back on the attacks and Rudi's involvement. The documentary makers reveal that the information Dekkers gave the FBI at the time was the missing piece of the puzzle in the investigation into the involvement of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Date of release: 2021.
